The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
